Film Critic Carrie Rickey will join us in the theater to celebrate the release of her new biography A Complicated Passion: The Life and Work of Agnès Varda. She will be signing copies of her new book in our lobby from 7:00 - 7:30 pm. Carrie will then introduce this landmark first feature in feminist cinema and host a post-film Q&A about the movie and Varda’s larger work. Our friends from Labyrinth Books will be on hand that night at the theater selling copies of the book.
Agnès Varda’s debut feature film, LA POINTE COURTE, is a sharp study of a marriage on the rocks. Philippe Noiret and Silvia Monfort play a couple who visit a small fishing village to work on their deteriorating relationship. Filmed in a documentary-like style, Varda’s film is a forerunner of the French New Wave. In French w/ subtitles.
